When a new home is built what is the last step? Landscaping! Typically, most of your building budget has been spent and now it is a matter of toss some grass in the front yard so that the mortgage company will let us close…

But with a little forethought this doesn’t have to be the case!

When you have the grading done and backfill placed against the foundation you should already have a plan for how you want your yard to look.  Flat has no character! Your yard is part of your curb appeal, so give it some shape!  This doesn’t mean retaining walls and large expenses, most of the time–it can be something as simple as putting a small mound of dirt you already have on one side of your yard and then planting a few flowers and bushes on that hill surrounded by lawn.

Be sure to ask your builder about other inexpensive ideas to avoid the standard new home yard and have something inviting!
